In the morning, we got a bus to Maggie Island - also known as Magnetic Island - because once you go there you don't want to come back. ha. It was gorgeous - our hostel was more like a paradise resort than a hostel it was awesome - surrounded by palm trees, white sand and clear blue water. Amazing. As everyone travelling in Australia seems to do exactly the same route and spend the same amount of time at each place, we saw basically everyone we had met up to this point. This is really great as it means that after a while you seem to know the majority of people everywhere you go. Awesome. We spent the evening at the hostel bar with a girl we knew off our boat and her friend and watched the 'ladyboy competition'.
The next day we spent all day chilling out by the beach and the pool with an awesome girl called Tiffany that we met and we went kayaking with a hilarious italian guy who did hair and make-up. We also went for a bush-walk to Florence bay with a funny french man who was terrified of snakes and so went along the entire way banging a stick on the floor and yelling out weird french noises like 'wep wep' because apparently the vibrations on the ground scare the snakes away. It was actually really scary because it got really dark while we were still in the bush and we literally couldn't see anything and this french guy was walking SO SLOWLY trying to keep the snakes away when we really needed to get out. Oh dear. Florence Bay was pretty cool - definitely misnamed. ha ha. Florence went mental and did loads of annoying faces next to all the signs. unbearable.
Spent the evening at the bar again which was so much fun and loads of people from our whitsundays boat were there as well which was cool. The next afternoon, after saying a heartfelt goodbye to my island, we got the ferry back across to the mainland and got a bus to Mission Beach. What a mission....
We met our new friend T-dog there, had dinner and then decided to go for a wander round town. It was 9pm and there was no signs of life and all the lights were turned off everywhere. We asked a lady if there was anywhere still open and she told us to go to this cafe 10 minutes away - after about 45 minutes of walking through the pitch black we decided to turn back. We got stopped by the police because they thought it was really weird and dangerous for us to be walking around at like 9pm and they told us to 'be safe'. oh dear. That pretty much sums up Mission beach on a friday night.
